Agrawal Clinic (Centre of Obesity Control)

Agrawal Clinic is a self-sufficient 40-bed Hospital. It was established in 1974 by Dr J. B. Agrawal single handedly and has successfully completed 35 glorious years of dedicated service to mankind.

It has a panel of specialty doctors and competent para medics. It has a 9 bed ICU with the latest life saving equipments including ventilators and cardiac Defibrillators, portable X-ray, ABG, and central oxygen. It has a Radiology Dept with X-ray, Sonography, Fluoroscopy and 2D Echo cardiography, Stress test. It has two specialised theatres fully equipped with Bariatric Surgery Table, Laminar flow and High definition Laparoscopic camera system. It has Deluxe class rooms with AC, TV, fridge and telephone, wireless internet and microwave oven. It features large size furniture for the convenience of Bariatric patients

It was the first hospital to bring Staplers to India in 1981. It was also the second hospital to perform Gall Bladder surgery thru Laparoscope in India in 1991 and the first Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy in the country in 2002. They have performed the maximum number of Laparoscopic Gall bladder surgeries in Bombay. (12000+).

The Centre for Obesity Control was founded to focus on evaluation, development and expansion of procedures and techniques in Bariatric (Obesity) surgery for patients with Morbid Obesity. Surgery is the preferred treatment option in these patients with an extreme degree of obesity. Bariatric surgery helps these patients lose weight and maintain the loss of excess weight thereby facilitating control of various apparently unrelated morbidities like diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery disease and obstructive sleep apnoea. The centre is one of the leading bariatric centres in India, with focus on managing morbid obesity. Today, this department is globally recognised as a centre of excellence in endosurgery.

The department is managed by Dr. J B Agrawal & Dr Abhay Agrawal and comprises exclusive trained staff in the areas Nutrition Management, Endocrinology, Counselling and Anesthesthetics.


Spectrum of Surgery

More than 100 major laparoscopic procedures are performed every month like Laparoscopic Roux en Y Gastric bypasses. Laparoscopic Sleeve gastrectomies, Laparoscopic Gastric Bands, Intragastric Balloons, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, endoscopic hernia repairs and other advanced laparoscopic procedures which include fundoplication, cardiomyotomies, splenectomies, nephrectomies, adrenalectomies, bowel surgery, pyelolithotomy, ureterolithotomy, thoracoscopic procedure, etc. Bariatric surgery is the fastest growing speciality in General surgery and Center for Obesity Control at Agrawal Clinic Malad, Mumbai has been pioneering its expertise and proficiency in this area for the past seven years.
It has specilalised theatres with advanced endoscopic surgery equipment. The Minimal Access Surgery Theatre has the state of the art equipment in the field of endosurgery. Best energy systems required for advanced endosurgical procedures i.e. Ultrasonic shears (harmonic scalpel) and Ligasure are also available in the theatres.


Training and Accreditation

Training of surgeons in the art and safe practice of laparoscopy remains one of the priorities of the department. The training courses conducted in the department are endorsed by Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo-surgeons (IAGES). Over 150 surgeons from India and abroad have visited the department for training.
